Suni meets Shadow

Shadow, a large wolf-dog who was ten feet long in his entirety, was lying peacefully in the sun. He lay on his back, enjoying the loving warmth of the sun on his tummy; his fluffy, five-foot long tail twitched happily in the grass. He was enjoying himself so much that he was oblivious to anything except himself and the sun.

Suni was padding along in the tall grass, the bright sun shining on her brown fur. Her yellow eyes gleamed happily, enjoying the bright light. Suddenly she saw pawprints in the mud. ( there had been lots of rain latley; this sunny day was amazing to all the animals) She sniffed and faintly smelled...cookies?
Following the trail with her black nose, she sniffed along the ground, her white paws getting muddy.

Shadow felt extremely peaceful here, with the warm sun beating down upon him; he stretched his hind legs, allowing the sun to warm one of his flanks. He felt certain that he would not be bothered here.

Suni continued along the path of prints, and she accidentally breathed in some of the mud. "Ugh" she snorted, shaking off the stuff.
Looking up to the sun for a moment, she smiled. How long had they waited for a day like this?
Finally the scent got stronger. Excitment made her perk her black ears in anticipation. It was a wolf! And...cookies?! That part she didn't understand.

Shadow wriggled in the grass so that the sun would warm another part of his belly; he let out a faint whine of happiness about the paradise he had found. His long, fluffy tail reflected his happiness, too; it was wagging up and down, causing a faint thumping sound every time it hit the ground.

Suni heard a faint thumping noise, and she glanced down again at the trail of paw prints. A bit large... she thought.
Continuing through the grass, she came silently upon a large shape . It was moving...every time it hit the ground it 'thumped'.
Cooookiiiies-- she smelled them! She leaped at the furry shape and started nomming. *nomnomnom*

Shadow, who was still laying on his back, lazily opened his eyes. He was dumbfounded by what he was feeling; something of reasonable size was chewing on the middle of his tail! He flicked the tip of his tail, as it was the only part that he could move, since the middle and up was in this creature's jaws. The tip of his tail brushed against an ear; it was another wolf!

Suni felt something brush her ear. Quickly she opened her jaws to look around--uh oh. It was someone's tail she was chewing on!!!!
Embarassed, she looked to her right. There was a long male wolf, looking wide eyed at her.

Shadow looked between his legs at the female who had been chewing his tail; she was tan and cream-colored, with a long streak of yellow fur draping over one of her eyes; he could tell that if it was at all possible, she would have been blushing furiously. Suddenly, Shadow felt extremely embarrassed, letting himself be seen in such a position; he would move if he could, but something seemed to root him on his back. His tail twitched without him knowingly stimulating it; it brushed against the side of the female's neck. He found himself unable to speak through his embarrassment.

With them both flustering around all embarassed like this Suni knew they wouldn't get anywhere. She decided to introduce herself
"Hi..." she began, though still embarassed. "hey...I'm Suni. I'm sorry I...uhm, chewed on your tail." Instantly she thought how stupid she must sound.
She let her gaze travel to the ground and her carmel and brown hair draped over her eyes.

Shadow was somewhat glad that Suni had spoken first; he had felt too embarrassed to start a conversation himself. Although he still couldn't seem to be able to move himself, he finally spoke: "umm... I'm Shadow," he said; "and don't worry about it; you're not the only one who has done that, so I can't say I blame you," he said, a slight grin taking over his face; he was quite sure he knew why she had chewed on his tail.

Glancing back up as he spoke, she smiled. "Oh really..." she wasn't quite asking yet she ended as if she wanted to know. Which she did.
She hadn't ever seen him around, but the forest was big and many wolves prowled through the trees. She admired his bright coat, and it was lit by the sun.

"Yeah, two other dogs have done it, too," he replied; "One of them kept chewing it for at least an hour," he chuckled, rolling onto his side to let the sun warm his back and flanks. Suni seemed to be examining him with a good bit of interest.

Suni laughed. Was it really that common?
Padding over to him, she settled neatly into the grass. Soaking up the rays, she licked her muddy paws thoughtfully.

Shadow was very interested in Suni; he was normally great at staying out of the way of others, so how had she found him? "Hey, Suni, how did you know where I was?" he inquired.

"I...I jsut followed your scent. Actually, there was a hint of....cookies in there." she laughed nervously, knowing how weird she must sound.

Shadow was right in what he had thought; "Oh, that was my scent you had been following all right, including the cookie smell; that's probably why you went after my tail, too," he laughed.

"oh...." she chuckled and smiled. "Well...you got anyone to hang out with? I'm jsut out here alone. Maybe we could meet some of your friends at the lake or something?" she inquired.
She'd certainly feel bad if he didn't have anyone. oh well, they could go walk together. Smiling to herself as she thought of her mate Twister lying on the beach. Maybe this wolf, Shadow, could come back and play with them sometime.

"I don't know anyone else besides you," he said, twitching his tail absentmindedly on Suni's back; "Except for my family back home, as well as the two dogs I told you about, I'm sort of a loner," he said; he hoped that hadn't sounded depressing in any way. "I didn't even know there was a lake; that might be fun. I've never actually been in one before; everything's frozen where I live," he chuckled.

After hearing what Shadow had to say, Suni laughed and said, "Oh, so you come from the north? That's really the only cold place I know of."
And suddenly, as if on cue, a cold breeze ruffled thier fur.

Shadow's fur was so thick that he barely noticed the wind picking up; he was playfully covering Suni's head with his tail.

Ducking out from the cover of the large furry tail, she smiled and asked again, " So where do you come from, Shadow?"

"oh, I'm from Alaska," he replied, twitching his tail behind Suni's ears (he's one of Balto and Jenna's sons)

"Alaska, wow!! I've heard about that place...also so many grand stories about the hero dog Balto...you've probably heard of him, right?"
Suni had no idea that Shadow didn't just KNOW Balto, he was related!

Shadow could not wait to see Suni's reaction to this; as he brushed the back of her ears with his tail, he spoke: "Yeah, you could say I know him... I'm his first son."
