Ely smiled back as he came up to the hay pile. He gestured with his flippers (as he usually did while talking), pointing at the hay.
"No, really. That, and there's more of you than me, so take what you want, I can make do."

Shadow shrugged; "Whatever suits you," he said, walking himself and Kodi over to a large pile of hay and laying down on it.

Ely grabbed a small amount of hay, and began setting it around himself, so that it formed a pile of which he was the centre. He then stood normally in the middle of the pile.
"Night, Shad. Night Kodi."
Ely turned his head and tucked his beak under his right flipper and closed his eyes.

Shadow grinned; "Night, Ely," he said, laying his head over his crossed paws before he closed his eyes. Kodi burrowed under Shadow's tail, using it as a blanket before he dozed off as well.

Ely slept peacefully. Well, as peacefully as he could. In all honesty, he hadn't slept well in years. The introduction of other young penguins in his life at school age had done little for his psyche.

Shadow slept much better than normal; it was surprising how much warmer all the hay made him, and he could easily sleep half a day if he wanted to. Kodi was likely to also be sleeping well, kept very warm with the combination of the hay and the blanket of Shadow's tail as he dozed.

Ely was, thankfully, having a dreamless sleep. His dreams were incredibly warped most of the time, so to not have to dream weird things was a relief. He quite enjoyed the sensation of dreaming, though.

Shadow, surprisingly, did not dream when he slept, which made it a bit strange that he would sleep for so long.

Morning arrived, and Ely stirred slightly, somewhere halfway between asleep and awake as the sunlight poured into the room slowly.

Shadow squirmed slightly as the sunlight poured in, hiding his face in the pile of hay to keep the sun out of his eyes.

Ely woke with a slight start when the sun hit his face. He saw, however, that Shadow and Koid were still asleep, so he remained quiet and pretty motionless, just standing there in an attempt to wake himself up a bit more. Things always felt a little surreal for him at this time of day.

Though Shadow remained asleep, Kodi soon woke up and shook himself, then proceeded to start playfully mauling his brother's tail again.

Ely remained quiet, and started stretching his flippers before giving himself his early morning preening.

Shadow yawned widely, trying to figure out why he couldn't see, since he still had his face buried in the hay pile.

Ely smiled when he heard Shadow's yawn, so spoke up.
"Good morning!"

Shadow lifted his head out of the hay, giving a sleepy "Good morning" in response, unaware that his head was still covered with hay.

Ely chuckled at the sight of Shadow's head covered in hay, but gave him space to wake up. So he walked around, getting a better look at the place than he was able to the previous night.

Shadow shook the straw off of his head, then got up and stretched, leading Kodi as he walked over to Ely.

"I guess I'm more the morning 'guin than you two, huh? I just like to be up early; it adds daylight."

Kodi let go of Shadow's tail to laugh; "Yeah, my bro really likes to sleep as long as he can if he can get away with it," he chuckled.

Ely laughed as well.
"Ah, I used to be like that too. Generally though, I'm glad to be awake. I've dreamed the weirdest stuff in my lifetime..."
