Re: Shadow meets Elysium
"Hmm, are you going to be able to get down this hill?" asked Shadow; he wasn't sure how hard the snow was, so there was a chance that it may give under his heavy body.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely looked down the hill, taking special note to feel the snow beneath his feet. To answer, he said:
"Yeah, I think so. I can just slide down on my stomach."

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow remembered how penguins did that; "Okay, go ahead, and I'll follow you," he said.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely took a few quick steps, and tipped forward gracefully, landing perfectly and going into a bellyslide. Using his feet to push himself forward, he faced the slope, and pushed off, letting gravity do the work for him. When he came close to the end, he dug his feet into the snow, slowing him down. Finally, at the bottom of the hill, he pushed himself upright, and looked up in anticipation of Shadow.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow wasn't able to lay on his stomach like that, so he sat for a moment, pondering what he could do; however, his weight caused him to slide down the hill on his rump. Shadow began to panic, he was a bit scared of moving like this, but his frantic motions caused him to go flying at the end of the slide. He flew into a soft patch of snow and went partly under it; only his rump and tail were visible above the snow.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely found Shadow's decent quite comical. This vanished, however, right at the end. He ran (well, moved as close to 'running' as a penguin could) over to where Shadow had landed, not sure if he was still conscious or not. Taking Shadow's temptingly-scented tail into his beak, and trying to resist the urge to chew at it again, he began to pull, determined to get his new canine friend out. Through Shadow's tail, he attempted to speak.
"You OK, uh..."
He at this point realized they actually hadn't exchanged names. So, he stated, giggling and not sure if Shadow would hear him:
"Drat, we haven't introduced ourselves yet. My name is Elysium. What's yours?"

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow started pushing his back legs into the snow in an attempt to push himself out; "My name's Shadow," he said shortly.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely muttered the name back to himself through the tail, still pulling at it to try to help out.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow pushed at the snow with all his might; this force, combined with Elysium pulling on his tail, was finally enough to free himself. Shadow occasionally felt a small jolt of pain at the base of his tail, since Ely had been forced to pull on it so hard.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely fell over once again, from the sudden release. He shot up and gently let the tail out of his beak.
"Didn't hurt you too much, did I?"
"Didn't hurt you too much, did I?"
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow smiled a little; "No, my tail smarts a little, but you did what you had to. Thanks," he said, nosing Ely gratefully.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
"Yeah, sure, no problem."
Ely extended a flipper and patted Shadow's head a few times in response to the nosing.

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow wagged his tail a little in response to being petted; "Okay, are your ready to keep going?" he asked eagerly.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely chuckled at Shadow wagging his tail, and responded.
"Yeah, sure, if you're ready."

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely looked at his body. Yes, he was thin for a penguin, but he was still sure he weighed quite a bit, a bit too much for the dog. So, he said:
"Well... only if you're up to it. I mean, I don't want to hurt your back or anything..."

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow chuckled; "Don't worry, there's a lot of muscle under all this fur," he said, sitting down so that Ely would be able to climb onto his rump for the ride.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Chuckling as he climbed on, Ely took hold of the dog a little awkwardly, not quite sure yet of how to sit on him.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow was amused at Ely attempting to climb onto him; when he was finally on, Shadow stood up so that Ely was laying on his back near the base of his tail.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely finally found his balance when Shadow stood up, sitting up a little. Jokingly, he yelled:
"OK sled dog, MUSH!"
Then burst out giggling. Through this, he said:
"Nah, really, I'm just being friendly and making a joke."

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow laughed, too; "I know; my brother's a sled dog, actually," he said, trotting slowly towards the town, his long tail dragging through the soft snow.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
"Oh wow, really? Looks like hard work."
Ely was recalling the occasions when he'd seen dogs with humans. Most of them had been sled dogs, and he remembered watching them run.

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
"It is, but he has a blast doing it," said Shadow; "I occasionally have run alongside his team for fun," his tail wagged at the thought.
Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Ely dodged the tail as it wagged, but was enjoying the chat.
"OK. Me, well, I suppose I'm lazy, but a 110km once a year, a few more of shorter lengths, and some occasional swimming is all the exercise I want."

Re: Shadow meets Elysium
Shadow chuckled; "Yeah, sled racing doesn't seem like the best thing for a bird," he said, now nearing the edge of the town.
