And at that, Cinder came back with a giant male elk. "Fresh kill!" she said through the mouthful. When she dropped it, she glared at Shadow, and started eating, Makita at her side. "This is our side of the carcuss, Shadow! You get the other side." Cinder said with a growl.

Shadow looked mournfully at the ground; "Take the whole thing; I can tell you think I don't deserve it," he said sadly, turning away and looking out of the mouth of the cave, his ears flattened.

"Fine. Starve. You're already weak." Cinder said, eating the intire elk before Shadow could get some, bones and everything, of course, with the help of Makita.

Ok, we should get going, Makita. and shadow, fend for youself. You can come with us, but i won't hunt for you, carry you, sleep with you, nothing." she said with strong annoyance, which made her speak fast.

He's like Balto in the sense that he's mostly a softie; he just hates conflict, unless it involves him beating the crap out of Steele xP

Shadow's emotions took an even deeper dive, and he got up, staring back at Cinder and Makita, his eyes watering. "Why should I go with you? It's obvious I'm not a worthy mate; maybe you should have just let me die when you first saw me," he told Cinder. Right before he turned away to look out of the cave, his eyes showed a flash of rage that had never been displayed before, but it died within seconds, and he did his best to avoid breaking down in front of the duo.

Cinder looked at him with shock. "Geeze Shadow, you go WAAAY to far to the extremes! Well, I'm letting you tag along becase heck, you made it THIS far, I thought you could go even farther, but if you DON"T want to come, then, stay. I would not put up with this attitude."

Shadow hung his head miserably; "I don't mean to act like this, Cinder. It's just getting really hard on me when you seem to perceive how thankful I am for you, and how much I love you, in all the wrong ways," he said hoarsely. Tears started flowing down his muzzle and dropping into the snow in front of him; he tried his best not to show that he was crying now, in front of these two, but he knew they could just as easily smell what was going on.

Cinder looked at him with sarcastic pity, then real pity, when she saw him crying. "I care about you to, you know. and it really freaked me when i saw you half-dead on the floor, I didn't expect you to come and follow me, and you didn't even thank so say bye to the Bear Healer!! All you thought about was me!! Just do something for your own good, well-being, and health. It's not ALL love, otherwise i would'nt like it!! There's more to life than just love: happiness, hunting, fighting, defending what is yours, but then yet again that has to do with love too, I DON"T FREAKING KNOW!!!!" she screamed finally and turned away and started walking slowly.

Shadow, who had been looking at Cinder as she spoke, hung his head again and sobbed quietly; she didn't know how he felt that he owed her so much, and they were now being torn away from each other. It was making him wonder if he should have just stayed how he was until he met Cinder; not caring what any females thought about him, avoiding them and only looking out for himself.

Another more subtle thing was going through Shadow's mind: he never wanted to kill anything except in self-defense, which made him wonder if he would be able to hunt as effectively as Cinder and Makita, who likely did not have this weakness of heart.

Cinder was still walking slowly, with her head down. Makita was on watch. She saw Shadow lokking at them meanly, and braced herself.

Nooo.. o_O I just forgot to say that Shadow isn't sure if he'll be good at hunting, since Balto told him never to harm anything except in self-defense (with the exception of Steele XD )

Shadow did not say anything, but trotted faster to catch up.

Shadow trotted slightly behind Cinder and Makita; he had been constantly wondering since they had left the cave: was it Cinder that was making their relationship so rocky, or was it him?
